Chrismon tree ornaments for El Refugio donations
In collaboration with Central’s youth ministry, the Rebecca Circle will include donation ornaments on this year’s Chrismon tree to benefit El Refugio (The Refuge), “a ministry of hospitality and visitation serving immigrants detained at Stewart Detention Center, their families, and friends.”
During the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday in January, the Central youth group will journey on a mission trip to Koinonia Farm in Americus, GA. One of the days will be spent with Koinonia’s partner agency El Refugio (Click here for Website).
El Refugio provides hospitality and packs bags with clothing for immigrants detained and awaiting deportation at the Steward Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA. These individuals are detained and deported with only the clothing they are wearing when apprehended by immigration.
As part of our service with El Refugio, our youth will pack bags with items for the individuals awaiting deportation.
We would like to give the congregation an opportunity to participate in this project by featuring a needed clothing item on each of the donation ornaments. Parishioners can take one of these ornaments from the tree, purchase the item featured, and bring it back as a donation to El Refugio.
A bin for the donated items will be located on the landing near the Chrismon tree in Tull Hall.
Listed below are the items that will be featured on the donation ornaments:
(Men’s clothing only)
- • Shirts (Sizes Small, Medium, and Large)
- • T-Shirts (Sizes Small, Medium, and Large)
- • Pants 30, 32, 34
- • Underwear (Medium, Large)

- • Jackets or sweater (Sizes Medium, Large, Extra Large)
- • Shoes (Sizes 8, 8.5, 9, and 9.5)
